Threading a sewing machine
Threading a Sewing Machine: Step-by-Step Guide
Threading a sewing machine for the first time may seem overwhelming, but like anything else in sewing, it becomes second nature with practice. While each machine may vary slightly, the basic threading path remains consistent. Here's a general walkthrough to get you started!

Step-by-Step Threading Instructions

Place the thread spool onto the spool pin. Pull the thread and guide it through the first thread guide located on top of your machine.

Move the thread along the next guide and slide it into the narrow slot, pulling the thread downward toward the machine's lower section.

In the narrow slot, bring the thread around the curve and back up toward the top of the machine. Locate the take-up lever.

Slide the thread through the take-up lever, then guide it back down. Pass the thread through the final guide above the needle and thread it from front to back through the needle eye.
Final Tips for Successful Threading
- Always thread the machine with the presser foot raised to disengage tension discs.
- Double-check that the thread is securely seated in every guide.
- If in doubt, consult your machine’s manual—it often has helpful threading diagrams specific to your model.
